How To Get Out Of A Funk
A few things on my mind: The weather up here in New York is pretty coldish, rainyish and all colors of greyish. Our president thinks that arming teachers with guns could be a good idea. Climate change is still a thing (more on that later). Oh and I currently have a migraine.
I don't know about you guys but:
I guess this is life though sometimes right? It can't all be roses. This important thing is to relax, reset and get back out there.
HERE IS MY 5 STEP PLAN FOR GETTING OUT OF A FUNK:
1. Turn off the TV, hide your iPhone and step away from the computer.
Remove damaging blue light and social media from your life. A mini digital detox can go a long way. Pick up a book, write in a notebook or take a nap instead.
2. Tidy up your space.
Cleaning up or organizing anything may feel like the last thing you want to do when you are feeling the effects of burnout but our environment has a deep psychological connection to the way we feel. No need to pull out the rubber gloves or anything - a little bit of effort goes a long way to start feeling like yourself again. So pick up those dirty clothes and scrub those dishes in the sink.
3. Take a deep breath, put on some comfortable clothes and enjoy a nice stretch.
Wherever you are right now, take a long deep breath in through the nose, hold it at the top for just a moment - and then slowly release. Let all your muscles relax, from your neck to your torso and your toes. Repeat as many times as you are in the mood for.
4. Drink lots of water.
Whether you chipped a nail or have the flu. Pour yourself a big glass of water and take small sips throughout the day. I personally avoid alcohol when I'm in a funk, it often makes the "ugh life" last longer than it should.
5. Listen to these 5 songs (and maybe even do a little dance, I won't tell).
These songs pretty much always leave me feeling inspired and ready for the day! Hope they add a little pep in your step as we march out into the week...
(Literally "March" out into the week 🤓)
